The Alleghany County School Board has announced the appointment of Sherman Callahan to the position of Director of Elementary Instruction.
Sherman Callahan moved to Alleghany County in the summer of 1995 after graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He began working at Alleghany County Public Schools as a physical education teacher at Boiling Spring, Falling Spring and Callaghan Elementary Schools.
After receiving a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision, Mr. Callahan joined the staff at Clifton Middle School in 2002 where he also served as athletic director.
In the fall of 2009, Mr. Callahan joined the staff at Sharon Elementary School as its principal and has been Sharon Elementary School’s principal for the past 10 years.
“We are truly blessed to have such great educators in our school system,” stated Gene Kotulka, Superintendent. “Mr. Callahan will provide our elementary instructional program with the direction it needs as we move forward. I look forward to working with him.”
Mr. Callahan is married to Alleghany County native Lindsey Ward Callahan. The two live in Daleville, Virginia. “I look forward to the next chapter in being a life-long learner and educator and I am thankful for all the support of school staff and administration over the years,” stated Mr. Callahan. “Alleghany County has been a great place to grow and learn as an employee and a district where children can succeed. There is no place I’d rather be.”
Mr. Callahan is looking forward to working with all Alleghany County Public School employees across the division in his new role as director of elementary education.
