Alleghany County School Board Appoints Administrators for Clifton Middle School
The Alleghany County School Board has appointed Mr. George M. Wood to serve as the Principal of Clifton Middle School, effective July 1, 2019.
The Board also approved Mrs. Cindy M. Fox as an Intern Assistant Principal, effective July 1, 2019.
George “Marty” Wood is a resident of Clifton Forge and has spent his entire teaching career with the Alleghany County Public Schools. He began his career in 1991 at Clifton Forge Elementary East School, he then taught at Sharon Elementary School from 1998-2001, and then at Clifton Middle School from 2001 until 2018. He coached the Alleghany High School golf team for 25 years. Most recently he has served as the Interim Principal since March 2019. Before being appointed as the interim principal, he served as the assistant principal at Clifton Middle School for the 2018-2019 school year. Mr. Wood graduated from Alleghany County High School in 1985, then earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Managerial Economics from Hampden Sydney College in 1989 and a Master’s Degree in Public School Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia in 2010.
When asked about his appointment Mr. Wood stated, “I have taught at Clifton Middle School since it opened in 2001. I am thrilled and honored to have this opportunity to continue working with the incredible staff, parents, and students of Clifton Middle School to continue to make Clifton Middle School the school that we are all proud of.”
School Superintendent Kotulka stated, “I am thrilled that Mr. Wood has accepted the principal’s position at Clifton Middle School. As interim principal, he and his administrative team did a great job and I look forward to working with him next year.”
As a lifelong resident of this area, Cindy Fox began her career with Alleghany County Public Schools in 2007 as a 6th Grade Language Arts teacher. She also taught 8th Grade Business Technology & Keyboarding. For the past three years, Mrs. Fox has been the TTRT (Testing and Technology Resource Teacher). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management and Development, as well as General Education. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.
When asked about her appointment, Mrs. Fox stated, “I am truly honored to be given the opportunity to serve the outstanding students, faculty, and staff at Clifton Middle School. We are a very close family at CMS and we have some exciting things planned for our students. I can’t wait to begin this new role and look forward to welcoming back and working with our students and their parents in August.”
“Mrs. Fox will be an excellent administrator and a great addition to the Clifton Middle School administrative team,” said Gene Kotulka, Superintendent. “She is well organized and her knowledge on instruction is exceptional.”
