Instructional Staff

Mary Jane Mutispaugh, Director of Instruction, joined Alleghany County Public Schools on August 1, 2001. Prior to coming to Alleghany County, she served as principal of Parry McCluer Middle School in Buena Vista from 1997-2001. She began her administrative career as principal of Lylburn Downing Middle School in Lexington from 1994-1997. Prior to becoming an administrator, Mrs. Mutispaugh was a classroom teacher for fifteen years. She served as chairman of the Social Studies department at Parry McCluer High School from 1988 until 1994. She spent three years as a middle school Civics teacher at Parry McCluer Middle School from 1985-1988. Prior to joining the Buena Vista City School system, Mrs. Mutispaugh spent six years in the Rockbridge County School system, four years as a social studies teacher at Natural Bridge High School and two years as a math teacher at Brownsburg Middle School. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Mutispaugh has coached varsity cheerleading and girls track and has been an adjunct instructor for Dabney Lancaster Community College since 1989.
She graduated from Lexington High School in 1975 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in social science from James Madison University in 1979. Mrs. Mutispaugh received her Masters of Education in educational administration from James Madison University in 1987. She completed her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Virginia Tech in 2001 and is currently working towards completion of her dissertation.

The primary function of the Director of Instruction is to provide oversight of all regular education instructional programs and curriculum development.

Mrs. Brenda Bartocci is the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Instruction. Her duties include facilitating the efficient operation of the instruction department office and providing support services, preparing correspondence, forms, reports and curriculum documents, preparing purchase orders, receiving goods or collecting proof of receipt from person(s) actually receiving goods, and accruing invoices for payment by the Director of Instruction.
