Title I Information

Title I, Part A

What is Title I, Part A?

Title I, Part A is a federally funded program designed to support the successful academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students in reading and mathematics. More than 50,000 public schools across the country use Title I funds to provide additional academic support and learning opportunities to help low-achieving children master challenging curricula and meet state standards in core academic subjects. Alleghany County Public Schools use Title I, Part A funds to support extra instruction in reading and mathematics at three elementary schools. All programs, are school wide program model.

Which schools in Alleghany County are considered Title I, Part A schools?

Callaghan Elementary School
Mountain View Elementary School
Sharon Elementary School

What is a school-wide program?

Title I is designed to help students served by the program to achieve proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards. Title I schools with percentages of low income students of at least 40 percent may use Title I funds, along with other Federal, State, and local funds, to operate a "school-wide program" to upgrade the instructional program for the whole school. Title I schools design, in consultation with parents, staff, and district staff, an instructional program to meet the needs of those students. Our Title I programs use instructional strategies based on scientifically based research and implement parental involvement activities.
