Alleghany School Board Names Assistant Principal of Alleghany High School


The Alleghany County School Board appointed Mr. Thomas L. Dobbs, II (Ty) as Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Alleghany High School for the 2015-2016 school year.

Mr. Dobbs, a native of the Alleghany Highlands, attended Alleghany High School and graduated a member of the Class of 2000. He continued his education at Radford University earning his bachelor’s degree in Exercise, Sport, and Health Education in 2005, as well as his master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision in May of 2011.

When asked to comment on his appointment, Mr. Dobbs stated, “I am excited about thenew opportunitiesand challenges of being named the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at AHS.The AHS staff is excellent to work with on a daily basis, andI look forward to helping andchallenging the students and athletes at AHS to strive for future successes.

Mr. Dobbs began his career in education as a health and physical education teacher for Botetourt County Public Schools for 2 years before returning to his alma mater in 2007 to teach health, physical education, and driver’s education. This year he has served Alleghany High School in a shared interim assistant principal position. Mr. Dobbs, a former athlete for AHS, has served as head varsity softball coach for several years, sponsoring summer and fall softball camps for area athletes.He sponsors the AHS Outdoors Club as well as his involvement in many other clubs and committees.

Mr. Dwayne Ross, Principal at AHS commented: “I am extremely pleased to have a former Alleghany High School student, athlete, teacher, and coach join the administration team. I have known Mr. Dobbs for many years, and I know that he will do everything possible to make Alleghany High School the best.Mrs. Mary Jane Mutispaugh, acting superintendent said “Alleghany County Public Schools is excited to welcome Mr. Dobbs into his new role as assistant principal/athletic director at Alleghany High School! He is very familiar with the school and athletic programs as a former student, participant, teacher and coach. His enthusiasm for his alma mater is contagious.”
